Faith Irene Backen

Faith Irene Backen, 69, Tama, passed away July 7, 2011, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Tama, with Pastor Kalen Barkholtz officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 10, from 4-7 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Faith was born on Nov. 11, 1941, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Arnold and Lillian (Libby) Lewis.

She graduated from Tama High School.

On Feb. 15, 1964, she was united in marriage to Richard Backen at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Tama. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Faith was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Mary Atchison.

Survivors include her husband, Richard "Butch" Backen, Tama; her children, Tracy Backen, Toledo, Shane Backen, Tama, Trever (Holly) Backen, Tama and Kasey (Kate) Backen, Tama; six grandchildren, Haley, Tanner, Levi, Gabe, Makayla and Emma; two sisters, Frances Prusha, Tama and Dodie Fisher, Ft. Madison; and many nieces and nephews.
