Toledo Farmers Market

Market Report June 17

July 1, 2011
By Dawn Troutner, Market Master
TOLEDO CHRONICLE - The Toledo Farmers’ Market started without any rain this Friday evening. There were twelve vendors with tables full of cabbage, beets, collard greens, rhubarb, peas, radishes, goose berries, spinach strawberries, kohlrabi, eggs, dry herbs, popcorn, Czech bakery, caramel corn, quick breads, pies, pastries, jams, jellies, and giant radishes. Something always new turns up on the vendors tables, so be sure to come out to the Toledo Farmers’ Market to see what’s new this week.

Bonnie Crawford from the Toledo Senior Center was at the market encouraging seniors to sign up to receive the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons. A senior must meet age and income requirements and complete an application to receive the Senior FMNP coupons. If you are interested in receiving the Senior FMNP coupons call the Senior Center at 641-484-3839 between 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

In the middle of the market you will find Rachel Benda selling homemade bread. Rachel was with the market last year selling bread as a way to raise funds for her trip to Casa de la Experanza in Mexico. Rachel’s sister Lauren is selling granola to raise money for the trip also. On this trip the mornings are usually filled with work projects. The afternoons and evenings are usually spent doing activities and interaction with the children.

This trip will take place on July 23rd through August 2nd. If you are interested in learning about Rachel and Laurens’ trip you can come out to the Toledo Farmers’ Market and visit with them or log on to The Benda family belongs to the New Hope Christian Church. The youth group at this church is making the trip.

Two weeks ago someone lost a key at the market. I have this key, looks like a house key, the key ring says Ohio Willow Wood Alpha Lock. If this is your key I have it.

See you at market.
