State Senator Steve Sodders will host a public meeting on the state budget this Friday, June 3, from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in Tama in the public lounge of the Tama Civic Center. Senator Sodders will outline the differences on education and job creation that are blocking agreement on next year’s state budget, which begins on July 1.
“Iowans are needed to help break the stalemate over the state budget,” said Sodders, chair of the Senate Economic Growth Committee. “Specifically, we are asking Iowans to call Governor Branstad’s office at 515-281-5211 to speak out against severe cuts to education and economic development.”
“In light of Iowa’s recovering economy, there is no need for deep cuts to preschool, K-12 schools, community colleges and public universities,” said Sodders. “We will have almost a billion dollars in the bank at the end of June. We don’t need to damage educational opportunity and hurt Iowa’s recovery by passing a starvation budget.”
