Meskwaki helps make wishes come true

May 28, 2011

TAMA NEWS-HERALD -As the story goes, when you toss a coin into a fountain, it’s considered good luck to make a wish on that coin.

Since the opening of the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel expansion in 2006 guests have been wishing on coins as they toss them in the water fountains located at the entrance of the casino.

Instead of leaving the coins that carry wishes soaking in the fountain, we decided to collect all those coins and donate them to the most appropriate charity – Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa.

Not only are we donating all those coins totaling $1,789.89 but Meskwaki is more than honored to match that amount for a total donation of $3,579.78!

“We are overjoyed and grateful to Meskwaki for their generous donation of such an appropriate gift,” said Rob Kelly, President & CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa.” Meskwaki ‘s compassion for our wish children enables us to continue our mission of granting the wishes of Iowa children with life threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

Over the past Year Meskwaki has contributed over $20,000 in charitable contributions back into the tribal community along with the surrounding townships.
