TAMA NEWS-HERALD - It’s a fact that many people doubt the art of dousing. I know because I was definitely one of them. However, a few years ago on a Pioneer Cemetery~ Joanne Bidwell proved me wrong. I experienced dousing hands-on, a I became a believer. Dousing is very real. It is employed by energy companies to find underground objects that would affect their projects. But it is also used to find unmarked graves. Unfortunately, in times past, graves were not marked with any permanence and not recorded, so dousing allowed identification of those graves.
Steve Meyer, President of his genealogy society and pioneer cemetery association has been called on many times to use his dousing ability. He said you can douse for anything that is buried, and he will be demonstrating this fact on Tuesday, May 24.
Iowa Valley is sponsoring this dousing experience and both believers and doubters are invited to meet at the KingTower parking lot at 6:30 p.m. to travel to a pioneer cemetery for a dousing experience Tuition for this class is $18. Register by calling 484-3334 800-284-4823.
