Dennis was born on Jan. 5, 1932 in Green Mountain, the son of Joseph and Gladys "Peggy" (Burke) Murty.
On April 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Barbara DeFrance in Waterloo.
Dennis was a long time Tama County farmer. He was very devoted to his farm. He was later employed at the Meskwaki Bingo • Casino • Hotel. Dennis enjoyed going to stock car races and collecting John Deere toy tractors. He was very fond of Thanksgiving dinner, especially the pumpkin pie. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Darla Murty; his granddaughter, Shelly Culbertson-Thomazin, one brother, Richard Murty; and two sisters, Barbara Hartsoe and Sharon Sterns.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara, Chelsea; his children, Jerry (Debbi) Murty, Tama, Rene (Chuck) Thompson, Tama, Randy (Stacey) Murty, Malcom, Janet (Alan) Manatt, Tama, Denise (Pat) Garrett, Osborn, Mo. and Dave (Lisa) Murty, Chelsea; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Lyle (Jean) Murty, Waterloo, Beverly Graff, Tama, Joe (Pat) Murty, Clinton, Lawrence (Pat) Murty, Tama and Shirley Deal, Green Mountain; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Coco.
A memorial fund has been established.
