TAMA NEWS-HERALD -New contracts, modifications and one budget-related termination were approved by the South Tama School Board during a regular meeting on April 18 and a special board meeting on April 21.
Contracts were approved for Olivia VanZante, middle school math at an annual salary of $32,592; Levi Hunerdosse, middle school special education, $31,433; Deanna Zmolek, high school language arts,$31,433; Nate Doran, assistant golf coach, $1,988; Dave Nitz, middle school baseball coach, $2,094; Cort Ahrens, assistant 10th grade football coach, $2,120; and Kealli Massengale, volunteer track coach .
A resignation from Martha Moran, high school food service, was accepted effective April 18.
Steven Spicher, industrial technology and Tech Pathways instructor’s position will be terminated at the end of the school year. The need for reduction in staff was cited as the reason for this decision.
Transfers include Angie Knowles from preschool to special education; Ruth Sjorstrom from high school art to high school and middle school art; Sharon Leonard from high school - elementary English as a Second Language to elementary only.
And, Victoria Hamilton who presently teaches high school Spanish will add English as a Second Language; Kelli Smith who now teaches middle school Spanish - elementary Spanish and Co. teaching will transfer to middle school Spanish/interventions.
Getting In The
Assistant High School Principal Jim Plantz has been working with Schwig Marketing for an advertising contract that has potential for procuring a source of revenue for the STC District.
School Board members voted 5-0 to approve a contract with the advertising - marketing firm.
Under the plan, the school district will grant the company the right to place a 3 ft. x 8 ft. scroll sign at the STC High School Gymnasium.
The scroll sign would be located under the scoreboard in the varsity gymnasium and will have a maximum capacity of 20 advertisements.
The company will have exclusive right to sell advertisements on the advertising product. However, the STC School District must approve all advertisements prior to their placement on the advertising product.
In other business:
•the final readings of the policy manual was approved. This includes the 400, 500 and part of the 600 sections.
•in order to be able to access the on-line application for the Summer Food Service Program, the Permanent Agreement, Civil Rights Compliance Form and Policy Statement must be approved by the STC Board of Education. This application will be to furnish meals to students between the age of three and 18 during the summer for those attending classes.
•TheTimberline Billing Service assists the SouthTama District with Medicaid reimbursement claims. This contract was renewed for a period of three years instead of two years. The only change from the past contract is that Timberline requires a response time of 60 days instead of 30 days. Fees are the same.
