The STC boys track team brought home a first place finish from the Wahington Demon Invitational track meet Thursday, March 24.

Team scores for their division were: STC, 127; Monticello 123.5; Eddyville-Blakesburg 119.5; Fort Madison, 82; Fairfield, 42.

" I think we ran well for such a cool night," said coach George Kuhter. "We have not had a real consistency in practice but I think the kids were ready to run. We came out with a team victory and we really were just looking for a gauge to see where we were in the season. I think that this team, even though they are so young, are a bunch of good kids who want to run hard and win. There is very little quit in any of them."

"I feel really good for the boys because they have been looking for success all year," Kuhter said. "Coming off the basketball and wrestling seasons, this victory was awesome. Our kids have worked hard all year and to see the smiles on their faces all the say home on the bus and Friday in practice, it was worth all of the hard work."

"Dylan Kalinay is stepping out of his shell and everyone is going to see what kind of an athlete this young man is, he is a good athlete and is going to go places on the track. Micheal Klostermann and Jeff Hauser had very good meets. I look for things to just get better for those two. After last year's success, Nick Clancy took off for some family time and he is going to have to work hard to get things back to where they were, but he needed a break. The sophomores and some good quality juniors stepped up and scored some great points. We are young, so I look forward to just getting better. It is going to be tough, but we are looking forward to the challenge"

"All of our kids out on these team have been the backbone and some great athletic teams here this year. We only have about 20 kids, but I think it is the best 20 kids. There is no hiding on the track and in the field and winning a meet this early could help vault us to a great year!! I think there might be some people who will look back on this season and wonder what could have been when they decided not to come out!"
