Art teacher LaRae Little says hallways on all three floors of the school will showcase the efforts of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The showing is during parent-teacher conferences with hours–. The public is invited to view???
There’s a great selection of art work ranging from drawings and painting to a special “half-portrait” area which allowed students to really demonstrate their ability.
Little said “recycling” and creativity went into a sculpture project which makes up one of the displays. Little said Mary Mixdorf, South Tama computer technician, delivered “hundreds of ends” of fibrous packing materials to the art classroom. They came from a large shipment of laptop computers received by the district last year.
It was “exciting” for students to reuse the materials, Little said. They worked both individually and in teams on the project. Among items on display are sculptures of animals, structures and even a military Jeep in camouflage.
(l-r) STC Middle School students Daniel Mendoza, Kode Steuhm and Erin Clayton are shown with the sculpture exhibit which has renderings created by recycling computer packing materials into art forms.
