Ask Mr. Herald Chronicle

December 24, 2010
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald
Reader B.W. asked: “Why did the IDOT NOT put rumble strips along the edge of the new pavement (4 lane) recently opened from the casino east?

“The older 4 lane has these rumble strips along the edge which to me is a great thing to alert sleepy or inattentive drivers they are not in their proper lane.”

Mr. Herald Chronicle referred the question to the Department of Transportation District 1 office in Ames which covers Tama County.

Tony J. Gustafson, P.E. , assistant District 1 engineer, replied: “Shoulder rumble strips were part of the project plans. The weather may have gotten to a point where the contractor was unable to finish these installations this fall and will now install them in the spring of 2011.”
