‘Tis the season and everyone’s searching for the perfect gift that doesn’t break the bank. This perfect gift can be found without stepping foot into the mall, placing an order online or spending a dime. Give the gift of life this holiday season by donating blood through the American Red Cross.

“If just 10 percent of Americans give blood this holiday season, countless lives could be saved,” said Greg Novinska, CEO of the local Red Cross Blood Services Region. “By donating blood, you can give patients in your area and across the country more time to spend with their loved ones.”

All presenting donors will receive a t-shirt (while sizes & supplies last). As a special thank you, all presenting blood and platelet donors in December will be entered into a daily raffle to win a $100 VISA gift card to help with post-holiday bills!

Winners will be contacted after the promotions period ends. The raffle is available to presenting donors and/or residents within the Badger-Hawkeye Blood Services Region between Dec. 1-31.

All blood types are needed to help maintain a sufficient supply for patients in need, especially type O negative. Type O negative blood, the universal blood type, is always in high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type, especially in emergency situations

It only takes about an hour to donate blood, and in that hour, you can give patients in need a gift that will be treasured for years to come. The need for blood doesn‚t pause for the holidays. By taking time to donate this winter, you can help the Red Cross ensure a stable blood supply for all patients who need blood products.

DES MOINES -Plan to give the gift of life at the Tama and Toledo Communities Blood Drive on Wednesday, Dec. 22, from 2- 6 p.m. The drive will be held in the Tama Civic Center at 305 Siegel and is sponsored by Knights of Columbus.

This holiday season, make a difference by giving the gift of life! Donating blood takes about an hour and is a simple way to give an amazing gift to hospital patients in need. It is especially important to donate blood during this time of year, as poor weather conditions and busy holiday schedules can often lead to a decrease in the number of blood donations which could lead to a potential blood shortage.
