TAMA NEWS-HERALD - Work began Monday, Dec. 6, on an expansion of the Casey’s General Store location at 13th and State (U.S. Highway 63) in Tama.

The store will be enlarged to the east enabling a number of new offerings according to William Walljaspers, Casey’s senior vice president.

He said customers can expect the Casey’s “made-fresh sub sandwich program” to be featured. Along with it will be expanded prepared food, multi-flavored coffees and cappuccinos and soft-serve ice cream.

In addition, cooler space will be enlarged from the current nine doors to 14 doors in response to greater demand for more beverage selections, he said.

In addition, the interior of the store will receive a makeover including new counters and flooring.

Walljaspers told The News-Herald the expansion work usually takes four weeks to complete. He said the store will be closed for four to five days sometime during the construction period to make adjustments.

The present store opened in mid-2002. It replaced the original store which was built at this location in 1983.

Casey’s also operated a second Tama location in the former Hill Oil Company building on Tama’s south side for a time.

The Ankeny-based company currently lists a total of 1,542 stores in Iowa and seven surrounding midwestern states.
