Concern over oil drilling in sacred Indian area

December 2, 2010
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald
Letter to the Editor:

On Nov. 18, 2010, the DNR gave the go ahead for oil drilling near Bear Butte South Dakota, just one and a half miles away in fact.

Bear Butte is a sacred place for many American Indian tribes. My grandmothers people go there to pray.

This is not right. Most of our sacred places have been taken from us, when will it be enough when we are but a memory or in your history books and thats it.

I am asking for help go to the Protect Bear Butte web site and sign the petition for a public hearing that everyone knows about and we can be heard.

I don’t ask this for me but for my people, my grandmothers people and the little ones who are born and yet to be born.
