TAMA NEWS-HERALD - Jim Roan, chair of the Wieting Theatre Opera House fundraising committee, said the group received word Monday the Mansfield Foundation has awarded a grant totaling $30,000 for the renovation effort. Roan said the Wieting committee will make another appearance before the Vision Iowa Board, this time at the Wednesday, Dec. 8, meeting at the Des Moines Botanical Center. He said an update on the Wieting fundraising will be presented. A grant totaling $225,000 is being sought from Vision Iowa CAT funding to aid in the $1.1 million building restoration effort. Roan said support of community members and officials will be appreciated the Des Moines meeting and extends an invitation for everyone to attend and support this project. The Mansfield Foundation is the organization established for the benefit of community efforts from the estate of Wes and Irene Mansfield. They were the founders and long-time owners of the King Tower businesses on U.S. Highway 30 on Tama’s east side. The $1.1 million restoration of the 1912 theatre is set to begin this spring. Roan said the building committee held a meeting lasting more than three hours on Monday night. It is expected the budget for the project may exceed the $1.1 million amount and said more donations will be needed. To make a pledge contact Roan or send to Amy Doyle, bookkeeper, Box 387, Toledo IA 523442.
