Toledo Library News

From Jenifer Bledsoe, Library Director
TumbleBookLibrary is a new service provided by the Toledo Public Library and many other libraries in Southeastern Iowa, with the help of Southeastern and East Central Library Services.

TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks – animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they’ll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music, and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.

A collection of licensed titles are available from many well-known children’s book publishers, which includes picture books, chapter books, non-fiction, and even puzzles and games. There is a growing selection of Spanish, French, and bilingual titles. The language drop-down menu allows users to view the entire website in Spanish or French.

The TumbleBookLibrary provides enrichment to students who are reading independently with a variety of high interest material. It also provides support to students who require skill-building with a variety of exercises. TumbleBooks have been exceptionally well-received by ESL and Special Education teachers.

TumbleMailer and Record-a-Book feature allows kids to send TumbleCards and TumbleBooks to friends and family that they narrate and record!

From old time favorites such as “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “Old Mother Hubbard” to modern titles like “Diary of a Worm” and “How I Became a Pirate,” there are so many great titles to choose from.

To try TumbleBooks, you can visit the Toledo Public Library website at www.toledo.lib.ia.us and click on the TumbleBooks icon. Contact the library for a username and password.
