TAMA NEWS-HERALD - During a recent Meskwaki Warrior football game, Jerry Stephens, superintendent and Jill. Herink middle - high school principal joined Vernon Lasley on the field to make a presentation to him.

Lasley graduated last spring from the Meskwaki High School. He distinguished himself as an excellent athlete and scholar. He signed a letter of intent to play college football at Southwest Minnesota State University where he is now a freshman.

Lasley has red-shirted for this year so he will still have four years of college eligibility remaining.

As a student at MHS, Vernon was always community minded and was the recipient of the Bernie Saggau award which recognizes a combination of academics, athletics and service to the community.

As an alumnus, he has carried the Meskwaki value of sharing forward into his adult life. Vernon has graciously donated the funds for the Meskwaki High School to purchase a new public address system for the football field.

Herink and Stephens presented Lasley with a certificate of appreciation which says “For your support and leadership in the education of children in the Meskwaki community.”

The school will also provide a plaque that will be displayed on the wall of the new concession stand/team room structure once it is completed.

His parents are Vergil Lasley and Lori Beck.
