Lady Warriors volleyball season ends

The Belle Plaine Plainsmen put an end to the Meskwaki Lady Warriors volleyball season Wednesday, Oct. 21, in round two regional play at Meskwaki High School. The Plainsmen swept the best of five match in three games by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-17.

Starting for the Plainsmen were: Emily Coover, Kameo Pope, Joy Cronbaugh, Andrea Lohf, Molly O’Brien, Alex Gritton and Macy DeMeulenaere, libero. The Plainsmen are coached by Katie Stull and Morgan Mitchell.

Starting for the Lady Warriors were: Kiyanna Pushetonequa, Jaylynn Bear, Tiana Thompson, Jaden Davenport, Lyrik Lasley and Essence Hoag. The Lady Warriors are coached by Rusty Henio, Delonda Pushetonequa and Lauryn Whitebreast.

The Lady Warriors trailed 7-6 in game one and by four points at 19-15, but the Plainsmen had a 6-1 run at the end of the game for the 25-16 final.

The Lady Warriors led 2-1 early in game two, but the Plainsmen built leads of 7-3 and 15-10, then had a 10-2 run to finish the game at 25-12.

The Plainsmen led 12-9 in game three before out scoring the Lady Warriors 13-8 to claim the match with a game three final of 25-17.

The Lady Warriors will play their third season of competitive high school volleyball next year. This year’s program lists Samantha Benda as the only senior on the team. They have seven freshmen, three sophomores and two juniors to return next year.
