More details emerge in KZAT-FM sale

September 23, 2010

TAMA NEWS-HERALD - The change in format to Hispanic music and language at local radio station KZAT-FM 95.5 caught many listeners by surprise those reporting to The News-Herald have said. Early last Thursday afternoon, the station abruptly stopped the classic rock format and local broadcasts also ended.

An assignment application for a Federal Communications license says a purchase agreement for the station by GRUPO ROBLE, LLC, Ankeny, Iowa and Camrory Broadcasting Inc., and Farmers and Merchants Bank was dated Sept. 8.

Rigoberto Lopez, Ankeny and Manuel Villagrana-Robles, St. Louis Park, Minn., are listed as principals of the buyers.

The FCC license held by KZAT was listed transferred to Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank from Camrory Broadcasting ownership on June 10, 2009.

No response to a request for comment from the bank in Cedar Rapids has been received by The News-Herald.

KZAT 95.5 was founded by Cathy Campbell-Currier in 1996 with a license to serve the Belle Plaine, Tama and Toledo areas.
