A student’s senior year always seems to move rather quickly and before you know it May is upon us. Below is helpful information that parents can refer to throughout the year.

Seniors that are considering attending a 4-year college should have taken or be planning to take the ACT. The cost is $33.00 with a late registration fee of $54.00. Applications are available in the Guidance office.

Registration Deadline: Late Registration Deadline: Test Date:

Sept. 17, Oct. 1, Oct. 23, Nov. 5, Nov 19, Dec. 11, Jan. 7, Jan 21 , Feb 12, Mar 4, Mar 18 . Apr 9

Compass Test for Community Colleges

Students thinking of attending a community college after graduation would need to take the Community College Compass Test. We can set those up through our office. They can be taken in Belle Plaine or Marshalltown.

College Visits

Seniors can take two college visits and be excused from school. If more are needed, then parents can contact Mr. Frakes and have additional visits excused. Students must get a college visit form from the Guidance Office and have this form signed by their teachers prior to the visit. Students should contact the Guidance Office to get the visit lined up. The student may choose to have a tour, visit with admissions, talk with a coach, or visit with an advisor from the major that they are interested in pursuing. I strongly recommend parent accompany their students on the visits.

Career/College Information

Students/parents can contact the Guidance Office for information on specific careers and/or college information.

Financial Aid

FASFA forms will be available in early December in the Guidance Office. The Iowa College Access Network will be doing a presentation and answering questions on January 13 at 6:00 pm in the high school library. All parents are strongly encouraged to attend.

Dollars for Scholars

Dollars for Scholars scholarship applications are available in the main office at the high school starting in December. Applications are due in early January and awards usually range from $500 to $4000. All students are encouraged to apply.
