Following the opening ceremony the Ritual team initiated candidate Amber Navarro, into the Auxiliary. Membership Chairman Brenda Youngbear presented Amber with her Official receipt proclaiming her as a member. The Auxiliary currently has a total of 330 members. This lists Tama-Toledo as one of the largest Auxiliaries membership wise in the State of Iowa. Each year the Grand Aerie sets a quota number of new or re-enrolledmembers for each Auxiliary throughout the jurisdiction. The local quota for this year is 36. Brenda Youngbear urges all to sign up a neighbor, a friend, an aunt, a cousin,someone who is at least age 18 and interested in working for the good of others.
The Fall and Winter Fish Frys on the first friday of every month during May will begin on Friday, September 3, serving from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The prices will stay the same as previous for the present and the public is welcome.
The Eagles and Auxiliary National Convention was held in Louisville, Ky. Aug. 16 -19. Five local members were in attendance. Among those were Jr. PMP DeLores Calkins,who gave a detailed report on all the action provided in the meetings and by the many entertainers. The high-light came when she announced that Nellie Morehead had been inducted into the National Hall of Fame.
Nellie Morehead first joined the FOE Auxiliary in Marshalltown in 1956 being initiatedby the Tama-Toledo Auxiliary. She later moved to Tama and re-enrolled in the local Auxiliary in 1974 and immediately got involved by attending meetings, helping where needed and becoming an Officer. Nellie was the first member to repeat in the localMadame President’s Office, and has held all the offices except Inside Guard and Secretary. She has been Treasurer for the past 16 years, a member of the RIWA Team since 1985 serving as chairman at one time for five years.
Outside of the Local Auxiliary, Nellie hasserved as Madam President for the Central District, Iowa Eastern Zone, Iowa State Auxiliary and West Central Regional (Iowa and Nebraska). She has served as Chairman for State and National Charities spending a lot of her time on these projects. The Tama-Toledo Auxiliary congratulates Nellie Morehead on receiving this most prestigeous award.
