Questions Clothing At STC

August 5, 2010
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald
Dear Editor:

Earlier this year, I was driving through the school parking lot with my daughter, a teacher at South Tama, There, walking, was a girl who was wearing "short-shorts." When I say "short-shorts", I mean they barely covered her panty line. They could have passed for the bottom of a tight fitting bathing suit I said, "Surely, they do not allow girls to dress like that." Her reply was that someone would send the girl home to change. But no one did. When it was mentioned to the principal he only ask if it was "bothering anyone."

I mentioned it to a teacher at another school. She said they not only had a dress code but that it was enforced. Mr. Hala's comment that they should dress "appropriately" is right. Now we get to what is appropriate? I am sure the girl in the "short-shorts" would tell you that she thought there was nothing wrong with her attire.

Thanks to that one parent out there who cared enough to bring this up to the school board for discussion.
