Recognize Girl Scout leaders

April 19, 2010
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald
To the editor:

April is an important month for Girl Scouts because we pause to honor and pay tribute to our thousands of great volunteers during National Volunteers Month. Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois is thankful for all the volunteers who give of their time and hearts to help girls develop lifelong leadership skills.

Grounded in the Girl Scout Promise and Law, Girl Scouting is a non-formal, experiential and cooperative education program that promotes girls’ growth and leadership development. Partnering with caring adults, girls design fun and challenging activities that empower them and raise their voices within a local, national and global sisterhood.

Without these caring adults, Girl Scouts could not exist. They are the voice of our entire organization. Each year on April 22, we celebrate all that these leaders do by designating a special day called Leader’s Day.

As chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois, I would like to personally thank all our leaders and volunteers for their commitment to our organization. We could not serve the girls without you.

Diane T. Nelson
