Who’s running the train?March 25, 2010
The things people say at the capitol never cease to amaze me. Governor Culver ordered a press meeting where he vibrantly demanded the legislature protect the Education Budget or else he wouldn’t sign the budget bills, thereby allowing us to go home! After hearing this, many people looked at each other in dismay. After all, the Governor’s budget underfunded Education by $170 million, and the legislature was planning on providing more money than the Governor? Thank goodness you don’t have us operating the railroads. We would run the train until we come upon a gap in the tracks (lack of money). We would look at the missing track (spending gap) ahead of the engine, study the problem for a year, end up going ahead of the engine a mile or two and remove (borrow) the track, placing it in the gap in front of the engine, allowing us to get back on our way. We all would find out very soon that we’ve once again ran out of track. And everyone’s dumb founded as to how this could happen again? We need to change the people running our train down the track. It’s clear the current leaders won’t take this state where the people want it to go. It’s time the passengers take over, throw the leaders in the back, blow the whistle so loud that everyone will hear, and get our train chugging down a new track towards freedom, honesty, morality and fiscal responsibility.
