DES MOINES (SPECIAL) - During the last several weeks, poor winter weather conditions forced The Blood Center of Iowa to cancel a number of blood drives. Scheduling conflicts and additional winter storms have made it difficult to make up for the units of blood that would have been collected at these blood drives. At this time, The Blood Center is in need of donations to restore the local blood supply back to normal levels.

In an effort to prevent a potential blood shortage, The Blood Center of Iowa is offering blood donors the chance to earn extra rewards by giving blood - double points to spend at the Online Store. Double points will be awarded to blood donors who participate in the following blood drives:

Toledo and Tama Communities Blood Drive, Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 2 - 6 p.m. at South Tama Toledo Middle School, 201 South Green St.
