1st Person - By Corey Kline
Howdy, my name is Corey Kline, and I am currently interning for our local paper. I grew up in Toledo and spent much of my time running in track or sacking groceries at Fareway. I graduated in 2005 from South Tama County High School. I continued studies at The University of Iowa where, in May of 2009, I received a bachelor’s degree in cinema and a minor in theatre. I was also lucky enough to take two photojournalism courses at the UI and I became even more interested in visual storytelling. In the months since graduating from the UI, I was able to live in Germany for six months and work as a youth counselor on U.S. airbases around Kaiserslautern, Germany.
As a counselor, I taught the kids to behave, and they taught me to have fun. As a traveller in Germany I saw how the Germans do work in order to relax; in Morocco I saw how the Moroccans relax inorder not to work. All the while I tried to learn how different people live, and I took a few photos along the way.
Now back in Tama, I’m trying to gain some experience in the journalism business and do some planning before heading off in a new direction. I would appreciate hearing any and every story about Tama or Toledo, after all, this is where I come from.
