Henry Fred Kucera

Henry Fred Kucera, 86, Tama, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.  Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Mary Schnepf officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery,Tama.  Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 18 from 4-7 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.  Henry was born on May 5, 1923, in Buckingham, Iowa, the son of Wesley and Josephine (Bilek) Kucera.


 He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.


 On Aug. 13, 1943, he was united in marriage to Lilyanna Ramsdell in Waterloo, Iowa.


 Hank formerly farmed southeast of Chelsea. He was a member of the Tama American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed gardening and going to the Casino.


 Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Georgia Ann in infancy; and four brothers, Jim, Jack, Joe and Lee Kucera.


 Survivors include his wife, Lilyanna of Tama; one daughter, Barbara Sauer, Tama; four grandsons, Billy (Aurelia) Benda, Malcom, Donnie (Glynis) Benda, Toledo, Mark (Serena) Benda, Marshalltown and Benjamin Benda,Tama; and six great-grandchildren.


 A memorial fund has been established.
