Dale Holmes, 82, Montour, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, Marshalltown with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Dale Leon Holmes was born on Nov. 25, 1927, in Montour, the son of Leo and Ruby Myrle (Beck) Holmes. He was educated in the area of his birth. On June 27, 1953, Dale married Patricia Floyd in Racine, Wisc. The couple lived in Montour their entire married lives.

Dale worked for Farm Service in Toledo as a petroleum salesman for 37-1/2 years. He was a member of PUSH (Pray Until Something Happens), Promise Keepers, and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, gardening, camping, and fishing with his granddaughter, Shannon.

Dale will be missed by his wife of over 56 years, Pat, of Montour; his four children, Scott (Gayla) Holmes, Cross Timbers, Mo., Robin (Steve) Mahnke, Altoona, Stacey (Jason) Groff, Clive, and Kelly Holmes, Kansas City, Mo.; his granddaughter, Shannon Lea (Chris) Chase, DeSoto, Iowa; his great-grandson, Alexander Chase, DeSoto; his brother, Arlo (Marge) Holmes, Marshalltown; and his brother-in-law, Eugene Baker, Gilbert, Iowa.

In death, he has rejoined his parents and his sister, Myrna Baker.
