Expect a CodeRED test alert week of Dec. 7

TAMA NEWS-HERALD - Tama County has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification solution. The CodeRED system provides Tama County officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire County including the Incorporated Cities of Chelsea, Clutier, Dysart, Elberon, Garwin, Gladbrook, Lincoln, Montour, Tama, Toledo, Traer and Vining.

Roxane Warnell; Tama County Emergency Management/911 director said, “When seconds count and we need to notify our community of an emergency quickly, “CodeRED” will give us the power to easily and effectively notify residents of situations that may arise.”

Warnell told the Tama News-Herald “an all county live test” of the system will be performed sometime next week –– the week of Dec. 7. This notice is to alert residents of the test of the system so they will be sure to stay on the line and listen to the emergency test message to make sure they are familiar with how it will work, she said.

Warnell also cautioned the public and citizens of Tama County to listen to the complete message and they will hear that it is a test only, and not to be alarmed. She also cautioned since this is the first live test of the system, do not call 911 or the Communications Center to ask what the

“Since this is a new system, we expect some calls to the E911 Center of folks who did not hear about the test, we will be busy fielding these calls, along with business as usual and the real emergency calls, we just don’t want unnecessary calls regarding the test message to tie up the emergency lines” Warnell cautioned.
