Local NewsLt. Gov. Judge to present Toledo I-Jobs award Wednesday

The public is invited to attend the presentation to be made ta the current building on West Ross Street. The city will provide an additional 25 percent or about $230,000 to pay for the new building. Grant money is also sought to supllment the city's share of the cost.It will be built near the site of the new waste water treatment plant under construction on the city’s southwest side. State funding to pay for projects affected by 2008 flooding and storms and for job stimulation totals $880 million in the I-Jobs program. Judge will also present awards to Marshalltown- $618,618 to convert the former Carnegie Library into a Municipal Office Building;Brooklyn- $573,000 to construct a Public Safety Building that will house the fire department and ambulance service; and Eldora- $261,000 for a flood mitigation project on Highway 175. Meeting in regular session on Monday, Nov. 23, the Toledo City Council approved spending $4,000 in necessary to replace a pump on a Jordan well. Duane Upah, superintendent of public works, told council members the pump problem has had blame passed from source to source including electrical supply. Council member Duane Pansegrau was authorized to inspect the pump before it is replaced. In other business: •Police Chief Jeff Harnish told council members his department would join with the Iowa state Patrol, Department of transportation Enforcement and Tama County sheriff’s Office in a vehicle safety inspection operation on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Council member Elmer(Skip) Wilson objected to conducting the inspection during Thanksgiving travel time and because of what he said was a previous problem with an inspection check involving motorists under the age of 18. Harnish assured the council the check would not disrupt the flow of traffic and it followed Iowa guidelines for such actions. •tax abatements under the Toledo Urban Revitalization Plan were approved for Richard Ridout for a new building at 102, U.S. 30 West; Douglas Dolezal, Dolezal Farm Supply, a building addition; Iowa Step and Tank for a new building at 205 West Grace; Merlyn Prncehouse for a new building at 207 No. West St.; and Robert M. Craun, 106 West Washington and Mike and Deanna Zmolek, 803 E. Madison, for residential construction. •reviewed a building permit issued to Cesar Barajas, 800 S. Main, for a 32x16 deck and reroof south side of house, cost of $1,600. |
