Kramer’s shop is in a newly remodeled area with a window view of the east side of the Tama County Courthouse. Ron Van Dyk Construction built the barber shop space. The shop is open 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Kramer will also take appointments earlier in the the morning, after hours and on Saturday mornings. Kramer suggests appointments during regular hours too, but walk-ins are welcome. The telephone number for John’s Barber Shop is 484-5015.
Kramer has been a barber since 1996.
After graduating from the American College of Hairstyling which Kramer says is the ‘old Iowa School of Barbering” he worked at University Barber in Ames for two years. Then he owned and operated John’s Main Street Barber Shop in the Sheldon Munn Hotel in downtown Ames.
Kramer said his clientele ranged from young to old, college students and many others.
Kramer returns to the Toledo business scene in this new role after an absence of more than 25 years. He had operated Twin Town Market, a convenience store at the location of the present Jiffy North complex on U.S. 30.
A 1978 South Tama High School graduate, he is the son of the late Charles Kramer who was president of the State Bank of Toledo for 30 years. His mother, Audrey, currently lives in Mt. Pleasant.
Renae Kriegel, Toledo, and Kramer were married earlier this year and he chose to relocate back to Toledo. She coincidentally is the manager of Twin Town Liquor which is part of the Jiffy location at the site of Kramer’s old Twin Town business.
Kramer has a daughter, Heather, (Mrs. Charles Berry) and two grandsons, Devon and Deakon, all of Ankeny.
John Kramer is shown last week in his new barber shop located on the east side of the Tama County courthouse Square in downtown Toledo. Kramer relocated here after being a barber in Ames since 1996.
