TOLEDO CHRONICLE - One vacant position in the Tama County Clerk of Court’s Office has been eliminated and hours for two other positions reduced in the latest round of cuts announced last Thursday.Carroll Edmondson, District court administrator, told The Chronicle, both an administrative employee and an employee in the Juvenile Probation Office will have hours reduced. Edmondson declined to identify the employees by name. Kim Halverson, Marshall County Clerk of Court, will continue as Tama County Clerk, Edmondson said. She has served both counties in what was a temporary sharing agreement following the retirement of Ann Hendricks as Clerk of Court in December, 2008. Clerk of Court office hours at the Courthouse in Toledo will be changed to reflect the reductions and changes announced state-wide, but hours will not be reduced as they have been in 23 other counties. Tama County is part of the 6th Judicial District which also includes the counties of Benton, Iowa, Jones, Linn and Johnson. A total of 12 positions were eliminated throughout the 6th District, Edmondson said. The changes were announced last Thursday by the Iowa Judicial branch. Noting the courts were not subject to the 10 percent across the board cut ordered by Gov. Chet Culver, a news release said, in part, “the supreme court decided a 7.1 percent reduction was a more prudent option given the vital nature of court services, yet would still be sufficient to meet the current revenue shortfall.” The staff reductions are in addition to 10 days of court closures, and unpaid leave announced for judges, magistrates and court employees announced earlier. Closed As announced on Nov. 10, court services will be closed on: 2009- Friday, Dec. 4, Thursday, Dec. 24, Thursday, Dec. 31 2010- Friday, Jan.,15, Monday, Feb. 15, Friday, March 12, Friday, March 26, Friday, April 2, Friday, May 28 Friday, June 18. Also, pursuant to the court’s order, all judicial officers and court staff will take unpaid leave. |
