TOLEDO CHRONICLE - Rose Ward won’t be opposing incumbent Toledo Mayor Pam Wood in the Nov. 3 city election, even though her name will still be on the ballot. There are no other announced candidates except Wood.

Ward told The Chronicle last Thursday her family circumstances had changed after filing nominations papers for the post. Because she and her husband are foster parents and plan to adopt they needed a bigger home and found one in next-door Tama.

As a result, she is not eligible to run or serve as Toledo mayor. But the developments occurred too late as ballots had already been printed including Ward’s name. This is according to Leta Kopriva, assistant auditor and elections administrator in the office of Tama County Auditor Laura Kopsa.

There are races for two city council seats in Toledo in the Nov. 3 balloting. First Ward Council member Kyle Chaska is opposed by Travis Mullen. Chester Bearden and Brian Sokol are vying for an at-large council seat held by Pete Zmolek who is not seeking reelection.

Third Ward council member Elmer (Skip) Wilson is unopposed in seeking reelection.

Council members in Toledo serve four-year terms. The mayor’s post is for two years.

In Tama, incumbents Dan Zimmerman and Robert Tyynismaa are unopposed for reelection.
