TOLEDO CHRONICLE - People in need have more than just the staples to choose from at the South Tama Food Pantry in Tama. Through the generosity of Godfathers Pizza and Subway, located at the Jiffy complex on U.S. 30 in Toledo, some popular and tasty products are available at the Food Pantry on a regular basis. Day-old bread, which is fresh-baked at Subway, and pizza products at Godfathers which are unsold within one hour of preparation are immediately frozen. Three days a week consumers from the Career Development Center in Tama pick up the items and deliver them to the Food Pantry Donna Smith, manager at Godfathers, says the store has been providing the food items for two years under a porgram promoted by the company. “It’s a good idea and helps the Food Pantry effort,” she said “We serve fresh bread every day and I hate wasting it,” said Subway manager Cindy Van Dee. Both managers credtied consumers from the Career Development Center for their work in picking up and delivering the products. “I can’t leave the store when it’s open,” Metz said Kody Risse, one of the delivery people, said the deliveries are another service fellow cosumers and he preform and said they also frequently deliver mobile meals in Toledo and Tama. Berleen Wobeter, a Career Development Center employee said ithey have a “community integrated program” and this service fits that role well. Wobeter is also a Food Pantry Board member.
