Be Creative comes to an end at the Toledo Public Library

September 2, 2009
from Jennifer Bledsoe, Toledo Library Director

The summer reading program “Be Creative” at the Toledo Public Library has come to an end with 16,204 minutes read.

Rosemary Acevedo was our top reader with 3,612 minutes. Area kids that participated in the program read all summer, then they would log their minutes,

There were four fun-filled programs for the kids this summer.

They learned a lot at the weaving demonstration. Sandra Godbey, artist, demonstrated the art of weaving with her loom. She also brought samples of her work for everyone to see.

Then the kids weaved their own placemat to take home.

Other fun things on the agenda were designing and making their own photo albums out of baggies, making their own maracas out of plastic eggs and making castanets out of buttons. We danced the chicken dance, did the limbo and learned the hand jive.

These lucky readers were treated to ice cream sundaes and they each chose a new book to take home. These programs require lots of extra help and help we had!

Our summer reading program volunteer helpers were Janice Custer, Dillon Graves, Preston Holiday, Amanda Husak, Aubree McFate, Phillip Norton and Sandra Godbey.

Thanks to all of our volunteers! The final pizza party for the top 12 readers was held on Tuesday, August 18th at noon.

The top readers were Rosemary Acevedo, Lisa Morrow, Jazmin Nunez, Monserrat Nunez, Emma Koehler, Kim Niles, Logan Niles, Jacob Wilkerson, Wes Upah, Raylee Graves, Boden Kohler and Laurel Upah.

Congratulations to all of our fantastic readers! We will see you all next year. Keep reading!
