Niedermann family gathers for 2009 reunion

August 28, 2009
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald
The annual Niedermann reunion for descendents of Jacob and Trina (Kruetzfeldt) Niedermann was held in the Park Shelterhouse on July 19 at 12:30 p.m. in Garwin.

Jacob & Trina had emmigrated from Germany in 1880 with their infant son Conrad and Trina’s parents Claus & Trina (Speth) Kruetzfeldt. They spent their life in Tama County with farming their living until moving in their later years to a small house on the corner of Highway 96 and the last street on the east side of Gladbrook. We had many years of get togethers which have developed into once-a-year reunions for all the descendents.

Although Jacob and Trina’s eldest son died before his first birthday they had 10 more children, all boys except for one baby girl who lived only a few-days. Therefore they were blessed with a large number of grandchildren who have expanded the family, with more descendents for family reunions now.

At the Garwin reunion there were 51 in attendance. Shirley Niedermann from Center Point, was in charge and will continue in charge again for next year’s reunion at the same location and time frame. Coming the farthest were Ken and Sharon Lane from Springfield, Mo. Others present were from various Iowa towns including Ankeny, Conrad, Garwin, Gladbrook, Marshalltown, Montour, Newton, Reinbecki, Toledo, Waterloo and Waverly. Eldest present were Gilbert Niedermam of Reinbeck and Bob Hempy of Montour. The families of both Alfred and Julius almost made an exact tie for attendance.

There were no marriages reported for the past year, only one death which was Ada Niedermann wife of Elmer Niedermann; and four births to help increase the total descendents, these include Anna Faye Thomas daughter of Robert and Laura Thomas at home in Grinnell on May 15, 2009. Brookellyn Jo Kreel to Chad and Kari Kreel on February 24. Mavrik Paisley to Kristofer Schweer and Kristy on February 24; and Anders Larson to Jeff and Chandra Larson in March 2009.

It was a very pleasant day with no flies or rain to bother in the screen enclosed shelterhouse so with everyone bringing tasty dishes of food and good appetites we all enjoyed and look forward to do it again next year. See you all next year!
