Youthful trio charged in Tama burglaries

TAMA NEWS-HERALD - Three male juveniles are being held at the Central Iowa Detention Center in Eldora after being apprehended in connection with break-ins at Miguel’s Store on East 5th Street and El Gallito Store on 3rd Street downtown.

Tama Police Chief Dan Wilkens said his department was alerted by an alarm at Miguel’s Store at about 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13. A store surveillance camera caught the burglary on tape.

Less than two hours later, police had suspects in custody and had recovered some of the stolen merchandise. Charges of two counts of 3rd degree burglary, possession of stolen property, 1st degree theft, possession of alcohol under legal age, possession of marijuana and public intoxication have been filed. Wilkens said some of the property stolen from Miguel’s Store is still missing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.,

Further investigation of the cases continues.

Report of a stop sign down on 1st and Harmon. Straightened it back up someone had run over it

Attempted to locate a suicidal person, unable to locate

Assisted Toledo PD with some suspicious vehicles at the Toledo Airport, all was fine

Traffic stop- 4 p.m., assisted with a reckless driver at Hwy. 30 and 13th St



Wednesday, Aug. 12

8:22 a.m.- Public assistance regarding detour, made contact with Iowa DOT

12:05 p.m.- Welfare check at 700 blk. John St

2:45 p.m.- 400 blk. Oswego for a low cable wire

Traffic stop- 3:22 p.m., verbal warning no seat belt



Thursday, Aug. 13

Break in at El Gilatto

Break in at Miguel’s Grocery

Advised two men arguing about a civil matter to contact their attorneys and not be arguing and causing a disturbance

Attempted to locate a white vehicle for a Tama County Deputy, unable to locate

Took a report for the theft of a car stereo

Cited and released a driver for stop sign violation and driving while license suspended

Report of a suspicious person on a bike, unable to locate

Report of people throwing water balloons out car windows. Pulled over and made them destroy the balloons. Next time they will be charged

Conducted interview referencing a burglary



Friday, Aug. 14

Medicap Pharmacy to identify a drug

11:35 a.m.- 500 blk. S. Elm for a juvenile matter

11:48 a.m.- Car unlock, 400 blk. E 4th

5:13 p.m.- 200 blk. 3rd St for harassment complaint

Possible drunken driver on John St. Was not drunk just tired

Called to Aqui Espero for a person trying to start fights, all was fine



Saturday, Aug. 15

Called to 100 blk. E 3rd St. for standby for female leaving with a child

Asked to assist in locating a person for Marshall County, unable to locate

11:05 a.m.- Assisted Toledo PD with a call in 500 blk. State St

1:36 p.m.- Funeral escort

3:30 p.m.- 1200 blk. Harding for a found dog

Received a be on the lookout for a drunk driver leaving Otter Creek Park

Traffic stop-12:49 p.m., 1st and Harmon, verbal warning, speeding



Sunday, Aug 16

12:55 a.m.- 800 blk. E. 4th, medical assistance

1:31 a.m.- 800 blk. E 4th, loud music complaint

Received a be on the lookout concerning possibly drunk minors leaving the Settlement by vehicle

3:58 a.m.- 600 blk. John St., medical assistance

4:21 a.m.- Arrest made in 1500 blk. Harding for public intoxication

4:58 a.m.- Took initial report concerning missing juvenile had child placed into teletype

5:58 a.m.- Missing juvenile returned home on their own

10:26 a.m.- Assisted Toledo PD with medical assistance

11:55 a.m.- Attempted to locate a young male throwing rocks at passing cars on Hwy. 30, unable to locate

10:37 a.m.- Conducted an interview in 200 blk. W. 4th St. regarding fraudulent practices investigation

11:08 p.m.- Conducted an assault investigation in 100 blk. W. 3rd St and cited two persons for simple assault

Traffic stop- 2:08 a.m., 13th and Siegel St., verbal warning, stop sign
