Local NewsPleads guilty to theft for bad checks to casino

Before Judge Marsha L. Beckelman:Barry Dean Alger, 50, Lisbon, Iowa, entered a written guilty plea to a charge of 3rd degree theft. He was sentenced to a suspended 60 day jail sentence, placed on unsupervised probation for one year and fined $625. Alger was also ordered to pay $1,000 restitution to Meskwaki Bingo•Casino•Hotel. According to court records he was charged on March 3 after writing four checks totaling $2,600 to the casino which were returned marked insufficient funds by a Solon bank. The charge was filed by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Chris Knouse. ChristopherLee McCombs, 29, Buckingham, was sentenced to 10 days in jail with credit for 10 days served and fined $625. He may perform community service in lieu of paying the fine. McCombs was found guilty of operating a motor vehicle while barred by a District Court Jury on July 6. He was charged at 110th Street at U.S. 63 by Iowa Game Warden Brett Reece on Nov. 23, 2008. Michael Paul Hemenway, 38, Traer, entered a written guilty plea to 1st offense drunken driving. He was sentenced to two days in jail and fined $625. Hemenway was charged on June 14 on Iowa Highway 8 in Traer by Iowa State Trooper Nathan Miller. Melinda Jean Buffalo, 40, addresses of rural Tama and Toledo, entered a written guilty plea to a charge of possession of marijuana. She was sentenced to two days in jail and fined $315. Buffalo was charged on March 26 after a search warrant was executed at a residence by Toledo Police Officer Brian Randall. Before Judge Mitchell E. Turner- Johnathan Claiborne, 23, Breckenridge, Colo., received a deferred judgement, was placed on self-supervised probation for one year and ordered to complete out-patient substance abuse treatment. He was assessed a $315 civil penalty. Claiborne pled guilty earlier to a charge of possession of marijuana. He was charged on Feb. 24 at rural Tama by Meskwkai Nation Tribal Police Officer Barney Hilbert. |
