TOLEDO CHRONICLE - Tama County is receiving the bulk of the first round of I-JOBS money allocated locally to the counties and cities- $277,822 or 73 percent of the total amount. The 12 cities in Tama County will share the rest. A total of $381,023 was allocated for distribution in all of Tama #County. Lyle Brehm, county engineer, said the money was split up based upon the same formula used to distribute fuel tax money in Iowa. "Every city and county in Iowa will receive a portion of $45 million in additional funding under I-JOBS for local street and road projects. These funds will begin being distributed to cities and counties starting today" a news release from the office of Iowa Gov. Chet Culver said. The City of Tama will receive $$26,463, Toledo $24,602 down to Vining which gets $383. The Toledo City Council had a special meeting set for Saturday morning, July 25, after Chronicle press deadline, to discuss the funding. Brehm told The Chronicle county use of the funding will likely be directed at crack filling on paved roads, to pay for rock and for bridge work. To what extent and for what specific roadways has not yet been cdtermined, he said. The state I-JOBS program is set for two years. The Governor's news release said, "The Culver - Judge I-JOBS program will invest $830 million over the next two years to create and retain jobs, strengthen the economy, recover from last year's natural disasters, and improve Iowa's infrastructure. "The funds will be used to upgrade Iowa's roads and bridges, invest in renewable energy projects, improve water quality, and upgrade public facilities such as the Iowa Veterans Home. I-JOBS is funded with existing gaming revenue, meaning no increase in taxes.
