TAMA NEWS-HERALD -Tama County and Genesis Development has reached an agreement for the lease of the Country Care facility located at 2480 K Avenue, Toledo. This covers the buildings and improvements, all personal property and fixtures contained within the facility for a term of one year, commencing at midnight July 1, 2009, and ending at midnight on the last day of June 2010.

The lease shall automatically renew for a period of one year unless terminated in writing by either party prior to April 1 of the contract year. Genesis agrees to pay Tama County $1 per year, payable on July 1, 2009 and the same amount the first day of each year thereafter during the term of this lease. Genesis will get possession on the first day of the lease and yield possession on the last day of the lease. The building shall be used only for a residential care facility for mentally ill, mentally retarded persons, individuals suffering from substance abuse and the indigent.

A complete copy of the lease with all details is available at the courthouse in the County Auditor's office and can be viewed there.

County Roads

A Public Hearing is set for July 28 at 9:30 a.m. at the County Supervisors room. This will be for vacating and closing a section of road, a portion of 380th Street between H Avenue and I Avenue in Sections 20, 21, 28, 29 in Columbia Township. Adjoining landowners will be notified and are welcome to attend this meeting.

Another Public Hearing is set for the same day at 10 a.m. for the reclassification of U Avenue from 320th Street to Highway V18, all in Sections 20, 21, 28, 29 in York Township.

It is the intent to reclassify this portion of road from Area Service A to either Area Service B or C. The purpose of this action is due to a bridge in poor condition and the reclassification would open up more options for its replacement.

According to Lyle Brehm, County Engineer, Highway E69 has developed some "blowups" caused by the hot weather.

A box culvert at the north edge of Toledo on 300th Street, just west of Highway 63 has accumulated a large amount of dirt inside the box. The road crew will be working on this this week cleaning out the dirt.

Law Enforcement Renewals

Sheriff Dennis Kucera presented contract renewals for law enforcement protection by his office for approval for several cities. Dysart, Gladbrook and Traer will pay $39.24 per hour for this service, Garwin $1,042 per month and Clutier, Chelsea and Elberon $1,500 and Montour $6,000 per year.

Request Funds Transfer

Bob Etzel, Tama County Conservation, has requested a transfer of funds to the machinery and equipment account in the amount of $12,523 and a transfer of funds to the land acquisition and development account in the amount of $29,039. This action is taken each year so the Conservation Department can accumulate funds to buy large equipment and not have all of it taken out of one year's budget.

Two vehicles were suggested for the Health Departments usage. A Ford Taurus with 55,000 miles and a Dodge Stratus with 45,000 miles. Linda Rosenberger, Director of Health and Lori Johnson from the Health office were both present. They viewed the Dodge and drove it and will view and drive the Taurus on Wednesday. The decision for purchasing one of these vehicles will be next Tuesday.

Claims for the past week totaled $100,779.
