The 86th annual Iowa McNamee reunion was held on Sunday, June 7th, at the Dysart Community Building. The 44 guests looked at old photo albums and records and reminisced and then ate a delicious pot luck. After eating lunch, the business meeting, conducted by Jon McNamee in the absence of President Kendall Crawford, was opened with the singing of "America". Secretary Colleen Foss and Treasurer Pam Whitmore gave their respective reports. It was decided that the 87th reunion will be held the first Sunday in June at the same place next year. After discussing old and new business, the meeting was closed with the singing of "God Be With You Till We Meet Again."
Reda Charmichael and Pam Whitmore played "Amazing Grace" while the group joined in the singing, and then they sang "Happy Birthday" to Glenn Krug and Wilma Krug, cousins who were celebrating birthdays this week.
Homemade ice cream was brought by Kenny Bahr, and the group enjoyed ice cream cones and dessert. The rest of the day was spent visiting with those that we hadn't seen in a long time and taking pictures.
Guests who were descendents of the McNamee family whose siblings had come from Ohio in the late 1800's included some from the families of George (Dysart McNamees), Amor, and Jim McNamee. They were from Cedar Falls, Vinton, Waterloo, North English, Tama, Toledo, Dysart, Iowa City, La Porte City, Mt. Auburn, Hudson, Buckingham, Independence, Ankeny, Lake Red Rock, Montezuma, Parkersburg, Rochester MN, and Winona MN. A special guest of the family was Howard Pippert of Dysart who is a nephew of George and Laura McNamee.
