Auxiliary entertains lTama Legion

TAMA NEWS-HERALD

On February 12 the American Legion Auxiliary entertained at a noon meal in support of our Legion and guests. We welcomed Frank and Marcie Nekola and her Mother Mildred Riha a member at Elberon since 1964.

At 1:30 P.M. resident Marne Chalupsky called the meeting to order. The flags were in place and an opening prayer was given. A moment of silence was observed for POW/MIA'S and the Vacant chair Poem was read.

The Pledge and Preamble were resited one stanza of the National Anthem was sung accompanied by Pat Asuer on the piano.

Officer roll was called and January minutes were read by Pat Sauer. The financial report was given by Treasurer Wilma Parizek. The Merit Award given was sent Jessica Danelwich for the second semester.

A big box of cancelled stamps, our project for 2008 was mailed. A nice thank you was received from IVH for the large box of christmas cards puzzles. The president sent in our biannualreport for charities & filed 99N Tax form for charities on the internet.

We welcomed Marcie Nekola as a new member and she was presented with an Auxiliry pin. We were reminded to save all card fronts a project for 2009, also to save all pop top tabs for Ronald McDonald House.

Ther were interesting articles in the new Homefront magazine about our latest women 4 star General. We now have 11. In 1975 it was thought women in the Army should be cooks. We have progressed. An article on gurards for the Unknown Soldier tells of their extensive training the number of steps they take while on duty. Also a women Auxiliary member who is 100 years old and has been the Unit president for 9 years.Guess you are never too old!

A bill was presented and paid. Get well cards were sent to Ray Sweet, Bob Daniels and a sympathy card to George and Dorothy Hayek

We remembered Washington and Lincoln with an article of Tama County's connection to Lincoln, since he received a land grant in Howard township, NW of Toledo for fighing in the Black Hawk War.

Also remembered were the four Chaplains who went down with the torpeoded ship alon with 700 soldiers and marines. The music of the month "You're A Grand Old flag." Dates: February 19 Legion Meeting (Auxiliary invited-) Elizabeth Ledvina Veteran Affairs Admiistrator will make a presentation, February 24 Tama County Joint meeting at Tama 7:30 p. m. March 12. Next Unit meeting. IVH Bingo &FFF to be announced.

Door prize won by Marcie Nekola. The prayer for peace was read & the meeting adjourned.
